Marshfield, WI

Here we are in another middle-of-nowhere town in Wisconsin. On the way I was really hoping we'd pass by a famous cheese factory... but we went a different route. It took a long time to get here today and we're seriously in another tiny little town. We perform tomorrow a little northwest from here, and after the show we have to drive northeast to Green Bay, which I must add is about 3 hours awayyyy :/ UGH

We're in a lovely hotel right now, however, that has a very nice indoor pool and hot tub. And it's outside deck is all snowy. It's really nice to be swimming in a nice heated facility when it's all cold outside :)

Once we got to the hotel tonight, Larissa, Alesia, and I hung out, watched TLC about Giant People... good times. We also ordered some Domino's- which is surprisingly good. Who knew? They have a new hand tossed pizza that's garlic-y and delicious. And we had it with pineapple on it (which my mom loves too).

The rest of tonight, Stephen and I edited the following video which i'm sure will be a new internet sensation ;) HAHAA

And now, I'll be watching more of the Olympic closing ceremony and sleeping. We have to be out of here by 7:15 tomorrow morning.

Much peace and love

Macomb, IL

Oh Boy! We stayed in Macomb, IL for 3 days and 3 nights in a Super 8. Let me start by explaining Macomb. Macomb is a small college town. They have a town hall, a central square, and a university. That's it. They do have a few chain fast food spots on the main road, Jackson St. and only three coffee shops, that all close at 5 pm! The latter was a huge disappointment yesterday when Bethany and I went looking for one to hang out and read in. One would think that in a college town there would be a bunch of coffee houses open late for students to study... hmm.

Well, the town was quaint and cute. I wouldn't mind stopping in it for breakfast and driving through 'cause after all it did look like Stars Hollow (the Gilmore Girls town), as visible with the gazebo and square. We also had breakfast 2 days ago at Cookie's Diner, which is pretty much Luke's Diner... minus the customers. However, that could be 'cause we all slept in on our day off and went to breakfast at the odd hour of 2 pm.

This town even has its very own Kirk, well in-fact, a few of them! Kirk on Gilmore Girls pretty much did every job in town. He'd show up at the dance store, the diner, the bank, etc. The daughter of the Super 8 owners, who also works there, also works at Walgreens, and one of the teachers who brought her students to our show also worked at our hotel.
Macomb also has the biggest snowman I've seen... it was over a story tall, it's teeth were made of bricks, its hat from a traffic cone, and its hat a large garbage can. (See picture below)

Aside from Cookie's Diner, we went to Cinema 1 and 2 to see The Lovely Bones... This movie theater was tiny and cheap (only $4 a ticket), and we all enjoyed the movie. Stanley Tucci was a completely different person than I've ever seen- super creepy. In general, I liked the book much more. The movie was kinda image excessive and pretty overblown, but it is what it is.
I made friends with a guy, Dan, who works at the cinema, who we invited to come out the following night with us.

The Forum, the place we went out last night was the sole place in town where people go on a Thursday night apparently. The Square was dead and you wouldn't even know that people were inside The Forum from the outside! The space is an old vaudeville house and it's really nice- lots of dance space, several bars, and two floors. Stephen and I went last night for an hour, danced a bit, looked at the kind of people out, and headed back to the hotel. The others wanted to stay in after a night of Domino's, the Olympics, and some McDonald's ice cream. It was Country-Western Night and everyone there was in plaid or flannel, most girls in far too short shorts, and guys in cowboy hats. Stephen turned to me and said, "Toto, we're not in New York anymore" and I couldn't agree more. We couldn't find our new friend, Dan, in the place- either he didn't show or the place was so crowded it was impossible to see him.

Our shows went well at Western Illinois University. We did, however, find out that we had been offered to stay at their own hotel in the same building as the theater... for free, and apparently we were not informed! Or, someone missed informing us... which was definitely annoying. It would've been nice to stay in a building that already had things to do- including bowling, people our age, food, and the theater we were performing in. The Super 8 we stayed in for 3 nights was fine, but definitely not a favorite.

We worked really hard to find things to do in Macomb but had no luck. We even drove to the university on our day off to ask what people do for fun. The answer? "We drink a lot." Another was to check out the roller skating rink, which actually did sound really delightful! However, when we got to the rink, Larissa and I went in to see if it was open. The response was a deep moan of a "no." We asked if they'd be open later and the two quiet men said "no." Any other rink we could go to? "No." Without a breath, Larissa and I skidaddled out of there quickly 'cause they were pretty sketchy and angry-seeming.

Needless to say, it was nice to leave Macomb, IL, where we pretty much did nothing. Here are some images:

Mokena, IL

Mokena is right outside of Frankfort, IL. And that's really where our hotel was, although we performed in a high school in Frankfort, IL for two days in a row. The lovely man in charge of the theater took us out to dinner for doing a meet-and-greet for the kids on Sunday, and it was delightful. They took such good care of us there, food-wise. They gave us great breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, and we got to take all the left-overs with us in the van (some great nutrigrain bars and rice krispy treats).
I thought it would be funny if during the show we took a little photo moment for the below images. It's what we, as the tarantula, would like if we were attacked with RAID:

And Bethany as a tarantula:

Our last night in Mokena, we went to Rock Bottom, a brewery, where a few people got some major beer samples. I tasted a sip of three beers and got over it easily. I'm not a beer drinker. But I had a delicious Santa Fe Salad that was super hearty. This was one of the posters there:

We left Mokena this morning, had to pick up some food at a gas station for breakfast 'cause we didn't get the memo that we were supposed to eat before leaving :/ So today's breakfast was some Honey Nut Cheerios and a Pop Tart. Real healthy. We also apparently, weren't able to stop on the road... but after tensions rose we got our way and were able to stop to take to go. Unfortunately, McDonalds was the place of choice, leaving me with no option other than french fries (fatty and not fulfilling for a meal). Their salads have raw carrots in them that I can't eat, and their apple dippers are red apples (allergic to both). So it was lame... I had to wait until we got to our area to get some food. And finally, when I thought all was good and I could cross the street from our hotel by foot to get some pizza, it was closed! So, I got into The Mystery Machine (van) with Stephen and went looking for some food, which led me to Burger King. Also, not healthy- but ended up with a veggie burger. At least I got some protein. We stopped at a WalMart and he got a file folder... and on the way we saw this HUGE snowman (literally taller than one story of a house):

Aside from what I've written, nothing too extraordinary has been going on. Tonight is women's figure skating at the Olympics, which I'm super excited for. We'll probably be starting a viewing party soon. We have a day off tomorrow... should be interesting, seeing that we're in what appears to be the middle of nowhere right now... we're in Macomb, IL.

Toledo Surprise!

We were in a suburb of Toledo, OH at Bethany's house all of last night and this morning! We got there yesterday afternoon after leaving Dayton, OH and a late breakfast at Denny's. The James' are the friendliest most hospitable people ever! It was so lovely to stay in such a comfortable home the past night. We went shopping at Meijer's, which is a sort of Target in the mid-west, for some things we all needed, came back to the house, had a DELICIOUS dinner filled with great conversation, a mind-blowing dessert (pictured below), and watched Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves (which I fell asleep during :/).

The house is on a beautiful lake in a beautiful community and they have the cutest dog and a really cute cat... even though I kept having to shoo the latter away (allergies). And Bethany's parents are just thee nicest people. We had the most divine breakfast and then headed out to do a show in Brighton, Michigan and then to an EconoLodge in Kalamazoo, MI (what a fabulous city name).

The Sensational Banana Foster Bread Pudding with Ice Cream:

A bit of dinner with the James':

After our show today in Brighton, MI we had a lovely lunch at a great Italian restaurant in the city's downtown with Bethany's family who came to see the show (Shout out to all of them!). We then drove 2 hours out to Kalamazoo, where we are now in the hotel. The moment we got here, we all decided that the next thing we should do is get Dairy Queen, which in fact was a brilliant choice. I got an amazing Midnight Truffle Blizzard. Basically chocolate ice cream with truffles mixed in... to die for. We also passed by Godfather's Pizza, a place that Stephen knows very well as the home of the Cinnamon Strudel Pie, which I have just tasted and is literally a slice of heaven.

Dayton, OH

"Why, oh why, oh why-oh, Why did I ever leave Ohio?"... I am reminded that I want to be in Wonderful Town when I'm older :)

We are in Dayton, Ohio... where SJT, aka Stephen from my show, went to college at Wright State. He took us to see Light in the Piazza there tonight for free. It was really good! I really loved the Fabrizio, Signor Naccarelli, and Franca in particular. It was nice to see the show onstage in the first place, though. I didn't get to see it on Broadway but I did see the PBS recorded version.

Before the show, Larissa, Andrew, Bethany, and I ate at the Spaghetti Warehouse, which is just like the Spaghetti Factory in California. I had the Veggie Lasagna, which was above and beyond what I needed to eat. I was soo full... but that didn't stop me from partaking in Sonic dessert after the show tonight. It was my first time at Sonic's... and it was goood. However, because of the snow, the waitress did NOT rollerskate out to our car. She did however walk out in just her uniform... how was she not freezing?! It's very cold everywhere.

Oh- this morning we did two shows in North Vernon, Indiana... withOUT a house :) fortunately. It took us probably a half hour tops to put the set together, which was really nice. We had plenty of time to just hang out in the theater. I lounged around on a chez lounge in the concession area and SJT acted as my therapist. We discussed an old reoccurring dream I used to get about a Dracula coming into my room and turning people green... SJT agreed that I was not then ready to be green, but now I am... hello, Wicked?!

So, the shows were supposed to be for schools, but since schools were closed here ('cause they don't actually plow the side streets and people can't drive there!) parents were told they could bring their kids... we thought we'd end up playing to about 5 kids or just Danny, our SM, who is pictured below. However, we had at least 40-70 people per show. And, in the second show I went bazurk and had so much fun! I can't even remember why or what happened, but I just did what I had to do and then some... I found all of these funny things to do... we'll see if it happens again... or I'm sure things will come up but not always in the same way. We also found a new thing to do backstage during a particularly long section... It's the "Treasure Song," where 3 of us have plenty of time offstage and we have a dance party to the song. Good times!

Here are a few random things from today.
We got lost finding the venue- the GPS told us it was here:

We thought it was 'Tranny' but it's 'Franny.' Same difference. So I'm basically thinking a tranny version of Fanny Brice with a touch of Fran from The Nanny... I'm starring:

The Pool

YESSS! Just got back from about 2 hours in the pool! Larissa, Steven, and I played around for a bit...

First, some rules:

Me and Stephen on our way out:

Seymour, Indiana

We just got to the Hampton Inn in Seymour, Indiana... a really nice hotel! Indoor pool, which I will be swimming in shortly ;), cookies, popcorn, snacks, convenient to good food... worked out for the night! :) Larissa and I are roommates, and we're now watching some Family Guy bumming around. The journey was good- we stopped at Panera Bread in Ohio on the way... yummy veggie soup and sandwich.
And then we drove through the pretty views of Ohio and Indiana...

Next Up...

We're leaving Wheeling, WV in a little under an hour. We have another travel day ahead. I assume the drive to we think Indiana will be about 6 hours or so, at least.

I watched part of The Today show this hour and Anne mentioned that in Canada there are Tundra Buggies that travel up close and personal to polar bears! I wanna do that. Too bad this tour isn't going through Canada... ah well.

Alesia and I got up and grabbed some dried cereal and beverages and got back to get ready for the day... now we get some time to relax, watch tv, etc. before we head out.

By the way, this is what we drove in yesterday...

Wheeling, West Virginia

We left NYC today at noon, where there was a snowstorm... and we got to Wheeling, West Virginia, a little before 9 pm this evening. We stopped for bathroom breaks and some food... but it was still quite the journey. We hit some interesting weather, as well... it got very foggy at times and if I had driven I would have stopped, but fortunately Stephen somehow enjoys driving in torrential weather.

So, we got here and quite the incident with Michelle at the front desk who told us that our confirmation was incorrect... but as we all know the customer is always right, especially when they have a confirmation printed out with them. However, she refused to believe this, and when she did check it the computer told her that our group had 2 doubles and 2 singles, leaving me and Alesia in a Single bed tonight... We're managing 'cause we're cool like that, and in fact having a blast, but we're pissed. Tomorrow we WILL be getting a discount if not the room for free. We refuse to pay full price for this. Ridiculous!

We decided to stay in the room and order Domino's instead of going out to get food, and boy was that a good choice! However, people in Wheeling, WV are a bit slow... Aside from Michelle, the delivery guy brought us the pizza and forgot the receipt. Fortunately, I had 2 bucks to tip him with, but we paid on a credit card so really, he should've had a receipt for Alesia to sign. Instead he had her sign the sticker that said what we ordered. It was silly. Well, we ate this deliciousness. Leftovers are still sitting beside us on the bed. And, we're watching the Olympics- Men's Figure Skating. What's with the costumes? Some people go crazy! And then the ones with normal looking outfits, don't do well... I don't know what it is but Alesia said it best, "I just can't get behind this."
Just now, also, there was a sudden noise and Alesia and I looked up and the person next door is definitely taking a shower as we speak, because we can hear the water as if it's in this room in front of this... or like in our bathroom. Crazy. Super 8... more like Pooper 8!

From West Virginia we leave you with this:

LES Fun... Scranton, PA... Somerville, NJ

After almost a week without performing the show, we had a show in the Lower East Side at a school on Hester St. on Friday, 2/12. Tracy, our chic director, came to cheer us on. The show went well without a house, which means less of a building process :), even though we were slow about getting back in the swing of things. It was a slightly bizarre space. We had poles that blocked sides of the stage and gave an obstructed view in some scenes to part of the audience... but things happen.

Following the show, we went to the Doughnut Plant, which I have been obsessed with since Junior year at Pace. This brilliant doughnut place beat out Bobby Flay in a Throwdown on the Food Network... so I took everyone there (if those reading couldn't tell, I lovvve sweets). And we had a marvelous time:

The following day, Saturday, we drove to Scranton, PA and did a show at a Masonic Temple. It was mysterious and secretive. One woman was really rude to us... probably bitter 'cause her husband has more than one wife:

Scranton, PA was I guess what one would expect... although Pam and Jim were nowhere in site, the people I saw at Subway and Wendy's, where we went to eat lunch, were definitely look-a-like's to people in The Office. Particularly this one blonde chick at Wendy's with poofy hair.

Then, yesterday, Valentine's Day, we were in Somerville, NJ at a Community College. We did two shows there- fortunately we had help from a crew to bring in and build our set. We ate lunch at Moe's, which is like Chipotle, just sooo much better: they have tofu options! It was spectacular!!!! We got back to NYC by 6:30, but it took me an hour after that to get to where I'm staying in the UES. Ugh. So, I took a lazy evening in for the most part, which was very relaxing.

Then, I woke up this morning, superbly refreshed, ready to take on the day- which might I add is beautiful today. I went and had lunch with a superstar friend, Sami, who's recent stint as 'Diane' in The Little Dog Laughed kicked major big butts. And now, I am taking the day easy- going for a walk to H&M to buy new gloves (mine went missing the other night), meeting up with Elaine in Central Park to get my book back, getting a massage in Hell's Kitchen, things that I don't yet know I'll do, and dinner with David Piazza as a final farewell.

Tomorrow is the big day. We leave NYC at noon for two travel days to Indiana! Yikes... I won't be back in this city for quiite some time, which is a little scary seeing that I've lived here for 4 1/2 years with leaving it only for one full summer after my freshman year, and then the short vacation times I've been away. What scares me the most is the fact that when we do get back in June for another two weeks of shows in the area, I won't have a place to live again, and then I won't be looking for an apartment here, but rather preparing to move back home to California for the summer at least. I plan to spend my summer there making some money and most definitely traveling abroad. Then after that, I will hopefully be back in NYC ASAP! For now, I guess, it's something I can't really think about... I just have to enjoy the fact that I'll be traveling around the U.S. and performing... Away we go!

peace and love.

Stephen and The Toucan

I just realized I never added this gem! It's from the Cracker Barrel's gift shop... what a blast:

Papermill/Sick/Dessert

This is the beautiful and famous Papermill Theater:

Bethany:

Me/Sick:

This delicious vegan brownie made me feel much better this weekend:

I went out to the East Village and had a beautiful nostalgic night with Kate Morris and Rikki Korkowicz the other night... I was reminded of the creative minds that live in this city, and of the delicious treats and hidden gems within New York. It was just lovely to see all of these wildly beautifully dressed Lower East Siders and East Villagers prancing around... I wanna be one of them... pronto. I definitely would like to live in that area when I get back to New York. It just breathes a sort of excitement into my life that is missing when I'm in Washington Heights. The next place I live in NYC, I plan for it to be a place I really want to call home. It needs to be a place where I feel serene walking back to in the evening, and a place I can people watch joyfully. The Heights didn't offer that to me this time around. The apartment I was in was absolutely beauteous and very fulfilling, but the neighborhood did not support that. I plan to be back in the Fall and will then definitely seek a harmonious living situation.

Now I am in the UES staying with lovely family friends.. It's blizzarding. More shows have been cancelled, and we've had off since Saturday. It's been very relaxing. I've basically been at a few auditions (one that went awful yesterday- I forgot my lyrics! It was definitely one of the if not the worst audition I've given. But, I guess that happens).

Yesterday, I celebrated Jennifer's birthday with her, David, and Kendall- a last minute shindig that randomly occurred. And now I am here:

And I have nothing to do at the moment but indulge in being lazy and lounging around... which is very strange to me. I'm a huge go-getter and really like to be busy. I prefer there never to be a dull moment and I pretty much go crazy when I get this bored... Here's hoping for a fulfilling day somehow.

peace and love.

Update

It's been a few days...

I've been sick... still am sick, in fact. I think it's a throat infection :/ gross.

We've been in NYC- I've been staying with the beautiful and talented, and dear friend of mine, Elaine, in midtown. We performed in Queens in the same theater that I saw Mandy Patinkins in concert 2 years ago. We also had two days at Papermill Playhouse out in NJ- so many famous actors made brilliant performances on that stage! It was a beautiful space, and the crew was incredible :)

We were supposed to be in Virginia right now, but because of the snow storm, today and tomorrow's shows got cancelled and we're still in the city. It's been an extra day off- beautiful. It's been nice to have the time off when I'm sick. Pure luck.

And so we're leaving tomorrow in the late afternoon for Maryland for a Tuesday morning show.
